pac-man memories

Pac-man cupcakes by Sharnel via Sweet Designs
Pac-man was my favorite video game growing up. It was also the only video game I ever played because our orthodontist had a stand up arcade-style Pac-man and we would take turns playing it in the waiting room. These cupcakes brought back all those memories!
(I love the Lego design too!)

july

Only a few days left to use this July desktop background! It's so pretty ... I suppose it could be used a little longer. :) Download the full version here.

pancakes

How I would love to go to this pancake picnic today! Images from an inspirational shoot by one of my favorites, Ashley Meaders.

hand illustrated just for you

Next week I will be stopping by the Design*Sponge Portland Meet Up with a friend. I'm excited to see what it's all about! Because I will be finalizing my own identity design within the next few months, I realized I don't have any cards to share. Solution: over the weekend I quickly painted these "hand illustrated just for you" business cards. If only I had time to do this for all my cards!

friday flowers

Well, I'm not fooling anyone with these "friday flowers" because tulips and hyacinth are certainly not in season in July! Still ... it is Friday and these were my flowers this spring. Plus I haven't had a chance to photograph the bright snapdragon bouquet on my desk yet. Happy Friday and have a fantastic weekend!

Last night I ran in the rain and my heart (truly!) skipped a beat when I saw the reflection of a double rainbow in the puddles. It felt like running through and under a rainbow! These phone pics simply do not do it justice.

moomin

Moomins! I was so excited when I stumbled upon this Moomins at Arabia website yesterday. Have you met the Finn Family Moomintrolls? I was introduced to their stories years ago and have kept an eye out for these Finnish characters ever since. Written and illustrated by Tove Jannson, the moomin books tell the story of a carefree and adventurous family who live in their house in Moominvalley, in the forests of Finland. They have many adventures along with their various friends: Sniff, Snifkin, Little My, The Stork Maiden, The Groke, Hemulens, Hattifatteners, Too-Ticky, The Mymble, Fillyjonk, Thingumby and Bob, and many others. While they are virtually unknown in the US, Moomins are at the hight of popularity in Finland and Sweden (there is even Moomin World!).

"It looks rather ordinary," said the Snork. "Unless you consider that a top hat is always somewhat extraordinary, of course." —Tove Jansson from Finn Family Moomintroll

Wouldn't you love to walk through this doorway? Could you help walking through it if you passed it? I sure couldn't!

book tables

Wow! I love this book furniture featured on design*sponge today. I'm keeping this idea in mind during the The Friend's Used Book Sale at Koelbel Library this fall (September date TBD)!

hot dog!

1/2 of this photo was taken by an NYC hot dog man during our trip to Times Square last January, the other 1/2 was taken of the same spot a long time ago! I love Photoshop.

Feeling like a good ol' New York hot dog off the street corner today. Thinking about a trip to Bernie's Hot Dog Co. soon. It's not NYC ... but it's hot dogs!

diy muffin toppers

These DIY toppers are a fast and cheap way to customize muffins. This particular batch was eating during the American Idol Top 3 night. Somehow, "themed desserts" became a tradition this spring. All you need to make your own is a round punch*, toothpicks, paper, color printer, and tape or glue. Print or draw your design one quarter of an inch larger than your circle punch. Punch out two circles (one for the back and one for the front). Attached a toothpick between the paper circles and stick into your muffin. Done!

This is the same idea, but with a square-a-licious punch instead of a circle.
* I use a Fiskars Large Round Squeeze Punch (available and cheaper at craft stores),
but if you are especially talented at cutting out circles—go for it!
